The Harvest…

Well I gotta tell you that working 7 days a week most days and gardening don’t quite mix. I haven’t been into the vege garden for weeks now and it’s just a big hot mess. I went out there today because it annoys me that I put so much time, effort and money into getting the garden prepped and growing, to have it looking like it does now..

BUT….there is a silver lining to this mess…..

I GOT A HARVEST!! Can you even believe that these amazing veges were growing in amongst all those choking weeds! I even got some broccolini that I though had all gone to seed! The onions are from last year which is quite amazing, I didn’t realise they take so long to actually grow!

Makes me wonder if they would in fact grow better if we left them alone? Then again who wants a garden full of weeds?

It’s Time To Re-Group

So we got a few things wrong with this vegetable garden like planting tomatoes before the trellis was built and planting too many cucumbers and zucchini’s. plants need air around them to breathe and without air circulating around them fungus forms. Our zucchini’s ended up with white mould but they still continued to produce. The other thing I found very different between store bought and home grown is that the home grown don’t last as well as store bought. As soon as you pick home grown you want to eat it straight away or it’s starts to wilt especially the zucchini’s and cucumber. Not sure why this happens but it’s another thing we have learned.
